Assembly Bill 659 - Follow-up

Information Sought on Antipsychotic Medications

In the 1997-98 state budget, the MediCal program was specifically required to make available to psychiatric patients on MediCal new, breakthrough antipsychotic medications. The medications with brand names of Zyprexa (olanzapine) and Risperdal (risperidone) should be available to MediCal patients without their having to have previously failed on older antipsychotic medications.

If you or your family as a patient have been prescribed one of these medications by your psychiatrist or other physician, the California Psychiatric Association would appreciate your sending us an email reporting on your experience in filling the prescription, be it good or bad.

If you as a psychiatrist have prescribed one of these new medications to a patient on MediCal, we would also appreciate an email from you.

The information we would like is whether or not you had any difficulty in getting the prescription filled.

Please send the email to us at calpsych@worldnet.att.net.
